Thought-provoking. Not quite what I expected, and yet I could not put it down. One review which I read of this book complained that only the first several pages were truly about the author's past-life memories (although I found them embedded throughout) and that most of the book was concerned with Ms. Karlen's years working in the mounted police and training horses for dressage. But I suspect they missed the parallels she attempted to draw between the persecution she experienced in her current existence with that of her past life, and the re-entry into this existence of the souls who had sought to destroy her in their shared last lives. Her eventual and hard-won triumph over those who sought to destroy her was due, as she makes clear, to being able to draw on the knowledge of that past life, as well as to survive her own emotional anguish and, to believe (as Anne Frank did) in Good, and to forgive.The writing seemed terribly simplistic though, and I noted several grammatical errors. From my own experience of reading different translations of my much-beloved novel "Desiree", by Anne Marie Selinko, I suspect that the problems I found with the writing style of this book were simply those of poor translation. (I read Desiree in the original translation 40 years ago and fell in love with the book. Reading it again years later in a new translation, I was very disappointed to find that much of the charm of the novel had evaporated. A good translation makes an enormous difference, whether in fiction or non-fiction.)As to naysayers who argue that Ms. Karlen's memories of Anne's death do not jibe with the accounts of survivors at Bergen-Belsen, I would point out that Anne was said to have died of the typhus that raged through the camp. Ms. Karlen remembers being scooped up and thrown into the crematory fires. Well, it would not be the first time that a plague victim was tossed out with the other bodies before the individual had truly died. It was so common an occurrence that it became part of a Monty Python sketch, while being buried alive, a fear throughout the centuries, found its way into Poe's stories. Those in the death camps hardly had access to any method to be sure that someone apparently gone was truly dead -- not even a mirror to see if there was still breath.. For Anne, apparently dead of typhus, to have been thrown into the crematory before she had fully expired would not have been impossible.Whatever the truth of her memories of reincarnation, the point remains that Ms. Karlen has, throughout her lifetime, experienced these memories as fact; for her, they are as real as the air she breathes. Whether or not one accepts this, this third-person presentation of her autobiography, with its potent descriptions of all the persecution women of her generation experienced in attempting to break into a man's world, is compelling and fascinating.

I had presumed this story would focus on a young girl who believed she was Anne Frank in a previous life. Instead it focuses almost completely on her current life and her perceived unfair treatment in the workplace. I totally lost interest a third of the way through. I believe she mentioned her connection to Anne Frank around five times. Very disappointed. Gave the book away.

This book is very interesting for a number of reasons. I did find it was hard to keep reading a number of times just because it is a distressing set of circumstances for the author herself but also for the past life connections to Anne Frank's life and death. I believe that Barbra Karlen had lived as Miss Frank in her former life as a result of reading this book.

As a past life therapist, specialized in past life dreams, I find Barbro Karlen's story absolutely convincing. Although her heartbreaking contemporary tale of persecution in a supposedly peaceful country becomes repetitive and almost nauseous after a while it is nevertheless in keeping with what I know about the carry-over of repetition compulsion from one lifetime to another. The return of nightmarish past life memories, triggered by similar tribulations in the present, is equally accurate and authentic. In her heroic struggle with and final victory over the forces of the past the author sets an example for how to deal with and resolve negative karma. Although this book is no work of art, it is an invaluable resource for all of us who struggle and work with past life trauma. And yes, based on the evidence found in this book, I am convinced that Barbro Karlen was in her last life Anne Frank.

The author Barbro Karlen, confirms my own convictions that life does not end with this body made up of Matter. I have had my own out of the body experiences given by the "Higher Power", resulting in me becoming my soul, and am certain, that life does not end with this incarnate body. I like the author, am convinced that we as a soul, inhabit different bodies after each lifetime, to work out our "Karmas". According to some religions, namely Hinduism and Buddhism the soul has to attain a "pure state"of being, before it can become eternal. The author Barbro Karlen's memories of a previous life as Anne Frank, and her present life's trials and difficulties caused by other humans in her work as a horse trainer and dresser,supports "re-incarnation" of the human soul. This real life story (autobiography} of Barbro Karlen, is a very revealing and illuminating book; a book one must read.

This is a moving account of a woman's story of a previous life during the Holocaust and the direct impact of that trauma in her current life. It's a hard read considering the inhumane conditions of Barbro Karlen's previous life; yet, a rewarding read because of her ability to put all of the pieces together to learn how to end a cycle of persecution.

From the author of Rightfully Yours (1989) and First Born (1987), another commercial stew--or rather a goulash, since the subject is chiefly 20th-century Hungary--with a dash of concert- hall music and Washington skulduggery thrown in for seasoning. Mortman's wild rose is the daughter of a famous Hungarian violinist, Zoltan Gaspar, whose nonpareil hands were wrecked by a zealous officer at a Stalinist concentration camp. But Katalin, a child prodigy at the piano, carries on the family name by winning the Salzburg competition and earning a scholarship to Juilliard. In New York she reconnoiters with handsome young Steven Kardos, a hero in the Children's Army during the l953 uprising, then American immigrant and Vietnam Green Beret. But their hot young love gets nipped in the bud when Katalin's called back to Budapest to attend to her ailing mother and can't get permission to leave Hungary after Maria Gaspar dies. So she plays behind the Iron Curtain, dallies with dissidents and gypsies, and marries the Communist hard-liner Major Laszlo Bohm. Meanwhile, Steven goes to law school, weds the dauntlessly wicked Cynthia Rhinehart, and heads to Washington as a congressman. The author has developed a method for screening candidates which is probably worthwhile. The book (and especially, the Kindle version) have serious problems that reduce its value considerably. The first 3 chapters are relentless, relentless, relentless self-promotion of his method and his according-to-him spectacular results and fabulous relationships with famous people. Good for you, but you've wasted hours of my life getting to the meat of your book. In the Kindle version the diagrams and illustrations are not scalable graphics, so they are worthless, because they cannot be expanded to a size where anything is visible. Large chunks of the content are thereby rendered completely useless. I sought out the referenced diagrams on the (heavily promoted) website, to find that yes they are available -- for a price. Sorry I spent money on this Kindle edition.

I'm not giving these 2 stars lightly. In fact, I'd say that there are some really great insights in this book and the Topgrading system has merit. However, as a hiring manager who uses Topgrading, this book is nearly useless. It's just Bradford telling you, over and over again, how awesomely awesome Bradford is. You think I'm exaggerating, but I'm not.Honestly, if I have to read one more mastubatory atta-boy to himself, or how 'Dare he Say It, 91%' I swear I'm gonna flip out. It's like cancer for my eyes. It's as if I'd already joined the cult and the cult leader's vapid and forgetful right-hand man won't stop asking me to join the friggin' cult.25% of this book is worth reading, the other 75% makes you question your decision to crack the cover.

The author spends a lot of time trying to keep on selling his book...which i already purchased. Book would be better if the author stops "patting himself on the back" and restating how great the process is and just get to details on what the process actually is, and allow the reader to decide if the process is worthy of praise.

The product and shipping were as expected. No issues there. I really don't like the Topgrading approach. It's very bureaucratic and is another laborious management process that consultants love to push, until the next one comes along. I can see where larger organizations would use it, but for small business it's just too much procedure.

Informative, but extremely detailed. Sometimes difficult to read through all of the information - definitely not a book to leave on your night stand, more of a book to read in your free time at work.

A bit of a sales job on his own branding topgrading . But hey that's why he wrote.it! Skim the first 1/2 with a highlighter and slow down. Especially in the last 20%Buy it. Use it. If you aren't doing this stuff or something similar aready. .. Watch your business and career transform.

The objective of this book is to provide the concepts, procedures, data, and decision analysis techniques necessary to design machine elements commonly found in mechanical devices and systems. Students completing a course of study using this book should be able to execute original designs for machine elements and integrate the elements into a system composed of several elements.

This process requires a consideration of the performance requirements of an individual element and of the interfaces between elements as they work together to form a system. For example, a gear must be designed to transmit power at a given speed. The design must specify the number of teeth, pitch, tooth form, face width, pitch diameter, material, and method of heat treatment. But the gear design also affects, and is affected by, the mating gear, the shaft carrying the gear, and the environment in which it is to operate. Furthermore, the shaft must be supported by bearings, which must be contained in a housing. Thus, the designer should keep the complete system in mind while designing each individual element. This book will help the student approach design problems in this way.

This text is designed for those interested in practical mechanical design. The emphasis is on the use of readily available materials and processes and appropriate design approaches to achieve a safe, efficient design. It is assumed that the person using the book will be the designer, that is, the person responsible for determining the configuration of a machine or a part of a machine. Where practical, all design equations, data, and procedures needed to make design decisions are specified.

It is expected that students using this book will have a good background in statics, strength of materials, college algebra, and trigonometry. Helpful, but not required, would be knowledge of kinematics, industrial mechanisms, dynamics, materials, and manufacturing processes.

See Chapter 6 on columns, Chapter 9 on spur gears, Chapter 12 on shafts, Chapter 13 on shrink fits, and Chapter 19 on spring design. Other computer-aided calculation software can also be used.

References to other books, standards, and technical papers assist the instructor in presenting alternate approaches or extending the depth of treatment.

Lists of Internet sites pertinent to topics in this book are included at the end of most chapters to assist readers in accessing additional information or data about commercial products.

In addition to the emphasis on original design of machine elements, much of the discussion covers commercially available machine elements and devices, since many design projects require an optimum combination of new, uniquely designed parts and purchased components.

For some topics the focus is on aiding the designer in selecting commercially available components, such as rolling contact bearings, flexible couplings, ball screws, electric motors, belt drives, chain drives, clutches, and brakes.

Computations and problem solutions use both the International System of Units (SI) and the U.S. Customary System (inch-pound-second) approximately equally. The basic reference for the usage of SI units is IEEE/ASTM-SI-10 Standard for Use of the International System of Units (SI): The Modern Metric System, which has replaced ASTM E380 and ANSI/IEEE Standard 268-1992.

Extensive appendices are included along with detailed tables in many chapters to help the reader to make real design decisions, using only this text.

MDESIGN–MECHANICAL DESIGN SOFTWARE INCLUDED IN THE BOOK

The design of machine elements inherently involves extensive procedures, complex calculations, and many design decisions. Data must be found from numerous charts and tables. Furthermore, design is typically iterative, requiring the designer to try several options for any given element, leading to the repetition of design calculations with new data or new design decisions. This is especially true for complete mechanical devices containing several components as the interfaces between components are considered. Changes to one component often require changes to mating elements. Use of computer aided mechanical design software can facilitate the design process by performing many of the tasks while leaving the major design decisions to the creativity and judgment of the designer or engineer.

We emphasize that users of computer software must have a solid understanding of the principles of design and stress analysis to ensure that design decisions are based on reliable foundations. We recommend that the software be used only after mastering a given design methodology by careful study and using manual techniques.

Included in this book is the MDESIGN mechanical design software created by the TEDATA Company. Derived from the successful MDESIGN mec software produced for the European market, the U.S. version of MDESIGN employs standards and design methods that are typically in use in North America. The recommended approach to fatigue design has been changed from the Soderberg criterion to the Goodman method. The modified Mohr method is added for members made from brittle materials.
• In Chapter 7, synchronous belt drives are added and new design data for chain power ratings are included.
• Chapter 9, Spur Gear Design, is refined with new photographs of gear production machinery, new AGMA standards for gear quality, new discussion of functional measurement of gear quality, enhanced description of the geometry factor 1 for pitting resistance, more gear lubrication information, and a greatly expanded section on plastics gearing.
